In our experience, people react differently and it’s not always possible to predict whether they will adjust or not. India is known for being the country of extremes. It can be extremely fascinating with its traditions, colors, beautiful landscapes and friendly people. Udaipur is a very safe area and around Animal Aid are rural agricultural areas. For some, India can be overwhelming: the noise and the smell, the density of people, the traffic and the pollution, the different pace of life.
Animal Aid is located in a small village outside a medium size city (Udaipur). Life is simple and there are limited options for social entertainment. It fits best people who are independent and happy with a quiet countryside lifestyle.
Yes, we provide accommodation. Most of our management staff live in the village, close to the shelter, in individual houses. If there isn’t a house available when you arrive, we will provide you with a temporary solution while we search for a suitable accommodation.
All houses have hot water and furnished kitchen and basic furniture. Please know that power cuts are frequent (especially in monsoon season) and that the houses do not have a generator. Houses do not have AC or heating systems however Animal Aid provides “swamp” cooler and space heater in winter.
We cover the costs and provide guidance for the visa application.
We cover the flights and transportation. Any additional costs need to be discussed and pre-approved.
There are 3 main seasons.
Winter goes from November to March, during the day temperatures are around 25° C and 10° at night, but in the coldest weeks it can go down to 5°. Rain is very rare.
Summer starts in April until June. Temperatures reach 40°C, it’s very dry and it can get dusty. It can rain, especially towards the end of season, and sudden rain storms have been happening more and more.
Monsoon season starts in July and continues until October. It can rain a few hours every day for several days, but there can be stretches without rain. It can also rain heavily for several days. Our area is not prone to flooding, but things can change with climate change.
General working hours are 9AM to 6PM (but it might varies slightly based on your position), 5 days a week.
We’re open 24/7 all year long, which means we coordinate within the teams to make sure that all shifts are always covered. That being said, we promote flexibility and communication to ensure that everybody can take adequate time off, between 4 to 8 weeks a year for full time positions (depending on the organization needs, seniority and other relevant factors).
