The family wasn’t sure what happened, but their street dog suddenly couldn’t use his hind legs.

We suspected right away that this was a spine injury. Sometimes, if the spine has not been fractured, nerve damage alone can cause paralysis.

Peanut was one lucky boy, to be rescued very shortly after the accident and had not had the chance to move around very much. It is so important to provide a restful environment which confines the dog’s movement. This way the bruised or traumatized nerves have their best chance to heal. It doesn’t always work, but this protocol is essential. Minimal movement, and bed-rest for 4-6 weeks.

Peanut’s full recovery didn’t happen overnight. At first, he wouldn’t eat. But slowly he gained energy. After about a week, he sat up again. And watch til the beautiful end–cuz Peanut’s back in town!
