The look of utter terror on his face broke our hearts.

A puppy had gotten stuck in tar. His joints were trapped inside his skin and he couldn’t move an inch. His sister, too, had walked in the tar, but only her toes were stuck together. For her brother, life had seemed to come to a complete stop. Without rescue, he would have died there, in the exact same position he was in when the tar hardened.
