We got a call to rescue a wounded dog.

What we found was a very elderly dog who was severely emaciated and dehydrated, suffering from an infected wound on her face. When we brought her back to Animal Aid, we found that she had a twitching condition caused by canine distemper.

The twitching, which in her case was focalized to her mouth, had caused one of her teeth to ulcerate and puncture through the roof of her mouth, leading to a severe infection in her nasal passage. We assume that it had become difficult or impossible for her to find food and eat on the street because of the wound, which had led to her starving condition.

We started her on antibiotics and gave her IV fluids right away. At first she wouldn’t eat but with some coaxing she had her first nutritious meal in a long time. Day by day, she continued to gain weight and get stronger. But she was elderly and needed extra time, both to get strong on her feet and to beat the infection.

Meet beautiful Blessing today.
