Veterinary Surgeon – Shelter Medicine

Become an exceptional surgeon. Transform thousands of lives.

Every day, between 20 and 40 injured, sick, and vulnerable animals are admitted to Animal Aid Unlimited’s hospital. From emergency trauma cases and complex wounds to fractures, tumours, amputations and high-volume sterilization surgeries, our veterinarians are exposed to an extraordinary variety of medical and surgical cases rarely found in a single workplace.

If you’re looking for a career where you’ll continually develop your surgical skills, work alongside an experienced and supportive team, and make a meaningful difference every single day, we’d love to hear from you.

Learn from exceptional mentors

Our veterinary team is led by a highly experienced shelter surgeon who has successfully trained many young veterinarians to become confident, skilled surgeons. You'll receive hands-on guidance while developing your abilities in both routine and advanced soft tissue surgery.

You'll also benefit from the support of senior shelter veterinarians from around the world, who regularly provide advice and guidance on unusual and challenging medical cases.

Develop outstanding surgical skills

This is a hands-on surgical role with extensive opportunities to build experience in:

High-volume ABC (spay/neuter) surgery
Amputations
Hernia repair
Tumour removal
Eye enucleation
Wound reconstruction and management
Emergency soft tissue surgery
Shelter medicine and population health
Every day presents new challenges and new opportunities to learn.

Work with an experienced medical team

Great veterinary medicine is never practiced alone.

You'll be supported by an outstanding team of experienced veterinary nurses and caregivers who play an essential role in patient care, anaesthesia, recovery, and rehabilitation. Together, we strive to provide every animal with compassionate, high-quality treatment.

Practice evidence-based shelter medicine

Our medical protocols have been developed in collaboration with highly experienced veterinarians from around the world and continue to evolve as we learn and improve.

We are committed to continually raising our standards through training, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement.

About our hospital

Animal Aid Unlimited operates one of India’s busiest street animal rescue hospitals as well as a large-scale Sterilization Program (ABC program).

Each day, our rescue teams admit 20–40 new patients suffering from trauma, illness, neglect, and other life-threatening conditions to our hospital and 15-20 to our Sterilization Center. Every month, hundreds of animals recover and return to happy, healthy lives thanks to the dedication of our veterinary team.

No two days are the same, and the breadth of clinical experience you’ll gain is exceptional.
