From our team: what Unlimited Unleashed means to our Hospital Manager

As Hospital Manager, Nandini oversees every patient in our care, making sure each animal is in the right place, receives the treatment they need and has the best possible chance of recovery.

For Nandini, Unlimited Unleashed is an opportunity to provide the level of care she has always wanted for every animal that comes through our gates. After years of adapting areas and facilities that were never designed for the current scale of our animal hospital and sanctuary, the team will finally be working in a hospital built around what the animals need to recover as fast as possible.

“We’ve spent years piecing together and adapting our hospital as we’ve grown. Every new space has solved one problem temporarily but soon another one pops up. Unlimited Unleashed let us design it around the animals from the very beginning.”

Solving a giant puzzle

Every day, Nandini decides where each animal should stay. Elderly dogs need quiet spaces away from energetic puppies. Animals recovering from surgery need peace and rest. Infectious patients need to be isolated. Frightened new arrivals need somewhere safe to settle.

Managing the hospital is like solving a giant puzzle that changes every single day.

“We currently have very limited space where we can keep our dogs. We have to find ways to keep the older dogs separate and the weaker dogs separate. Sometimes, because of our space limitations, dogs recovering from fractures are living alongside healthy dogs. We make it work, but we know we can do so much better.”

Unlimited Unleashed has been designed with these challenges in mind

Dedicated recovery areas will allow patients to heal in quieter surroundings. Spacious off-leash exercise areas and walking paths will help animals rebuild their strength and confidence. Purpose-built sanctuary spaces will provide elderly, disabled and special-needs dogs with the comfort they deserve, while separate areas for cats, birds and large animals will ensure every species receives the specialist care they need.

For the first time, our veterinary team will have facilities designed around the needs of the animals, rather than adapting every day to the limitations of the buildings.

One of the improvements Nandini is most excited about is having dedicated admission, treatment and release processing areas.

“When we will have the proper facilities built for admitting, checking, and treating animals properly, all the way up to getting them healed and ready to go back to their neighborhoods, our entire team will be able to work so much more calmly and efficiently, which in turn will help the animals from the moment they are in our care.”

Every animal deserves the same chance

Nandini has a special place in her heart for the animals many people overlook.

While the disabled dogs and calves often grab visitors’ attention, Nandini is especially fond of the pigeons and other birds in our care. At any one time, around 50 injured pigeons may be recovering at Animal Aid, each one just as deserving of treatment and kindness as any other patient. She’s thrilled that our new hospital campus will include a bird hospital and aviary.

“Some animals capture everyone’s attention. Others are easy to overlook. To me, every one of them deserves exactly the same chance,” she says.

She also shares a special bond with our largest sanctuary residents. One rescued water buffalo, now fully grown, still forgets her size whenever she sees her, happily resting her enormous head in her lap for the same cuddles she received as a tiny calf.

Nothing escapes Nandini’s notice. Whether it’s a dog that seems quieter than usual or a pigeon that’s finally ready to fly again, she notices the smallest changes that can make all the difference.

Our new campus will give Nandini and the entire veterinary team the space, specialist facilities and equipment to provide an even higher standard of care. It will allow them to spend less time working around the limitations of the buildings and more time doing what they do best – helping injured animals recover.
