The sheer area of her burn was huge.

Where the skin had not melted, it had detached from the tissue and, without blood flow, would turn necrotic. With so much tissue destroyed, we were not sure we could save her, as her black, sparkling eyes looked at her caregivers with both alarm and trust. Her pain was monstrous, yet the quiet love her heart radiated was something everyone could feel.

Each day, we cleaned and covered the wounds with medicated cream and then covered them with a sheet of plastic before applying bandages. The plastic holds in moisture and promotes healing. We saw results within days, but the final closure of this terrible wound would take months. But it only takes minutes to fall in love with Holly
