Can you walk me through the process for adopting?

During a video call, we’ll discuss your home, lifestyle, experience and expectations to help identify suitable matches.

Once we find a dog who may be a good fit, we’ll provide additional information and answer any questions you may have. We’ll talk with you about the dog’s personality, medical history, behavioral needs and any ongoing requirements.

Depending on where you live, we might carry out a home visit or  arrange a follow-up video call with one of our staff or volunteers. This helps ensure you have everything in place to welcome a rescue dog into your family.

If everyone feels it’s the right match, we’ll guide you through the final adoption paperwork and agreement.

Once the adoption is finalized, we’ll arrange your dog’s journey home. Our team will guide you through the process and discuss arrival arrangements with you.

What rules are there for importing a dog from India?

In most cases, dogs must be at least 3–6 months old before they are eligible to travel and will require a microchip, core vaccinations, a rabies vaccination, parasite treatment, a health certificate and other documentation required by the
destination country.

For many countries, a rabies serology (titre) test is also required. This blood test confirms that the dog has developed sufficient protection against rabies.

Following the test, there’s a waiting period of up to three months before travel can take place.

Once all veterinary requirements and waiting periods have been completed in India, your dog is free to travel and, in most cases, no further quarantine is required upon arrival.

What transport options do you offer?

Depending on your location, your dog may travel home either as manifest cargo or with a flight escort. Our Adoptions team will discuss the available options with you and recommend the most suitable route.

𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝘁
A flight escort is a traveller who accompanies your dog on the same flight. Your dog travels in the aircraft’s climate-controlled hold and is checked in by the escort before departure.

On arrival, the escort will collect your dog and assist with the handover process. This option can sometimes be more affordable than cargo transport and allows rescued dogs to travel when a suitable volunteer is available.

Please note that flight escort opportunities depend entirely on volunteer travel schedules and may not always be available for every destination.

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗼
Manifest cargo is where your dog travels as registered cargo rather than accompanying a passenger.

While this option is often more expensive, it offers greater flexibility as flights can be arranged according to the dog’s travel readiness rather than waiting for a flight escort.

The most appropriate option will depend on your dog, location, airline availability, timing, and overall transport costs. Our team will always work with you to find the safest and most practical route for your dog’s journey home.

How much is the adoption fee?

We don’t charge a fee to adopt one of our animals. The most important thing to us is finding the right match for the animal in our care and for you.

The only fees you will have to pay are the transport costs. We’ve outlined these in the question and answer below.

How much are the travel costs?

International transport costs vary depending on destination, your dogs size, airline availability and whether your dog travels with a flight escort or as manifest cargo.

We’ll always work to keep costs as low as possible and will provide a full breakdown of expected expenses upfront.

As a guide, total transport costs generally range between:

Our Adoption team will discuss all available transport options with you and provide an accurate quotation before making any travel arrangements.

How long will it take from submitting an application to receiving my dog?

Once we’ve accepted your application and matched you with the perfect companion, we’ll start to get all the paperwork and logistics sorted. This can take 1-4 months, depending on the destination.

We’ll keep you in the loop every step of the journey so you know what’s happening and when.

What do I do if my dog doesn’t settle once he gets home?

This is completely normal. Every dog adjusts at their own pace, and it can take days, weeks or even months for a dog to feel fully comfortable in their new home.

Many of our dogs have never experienced life inside a home before, so everyday things such as stairs, household noises and new routines may be unfamiliar to them.
