The laceration was very deep, and had the injury been lower on his leg he would have surely died. Fortunately, there was enough muscle and other tissue on his rear that we knew we could give him a chance.
The bandaging was very tricky. Bandages just fall off in that location because it’s not really possible to wrap in such a way that it stays snug with the movement of the legs, so we used a bandaging technique in which a few stitches are inserted in the healthy tissue around a wound, and padded bandages are then tied down protecting the wound. The bandages are changed daily but the stitches remain the same. This kept the wound clean and eased his pain as his healing journey began.
We’ve named him Milky Way because even though he’s not a very social boy, remaining quite independent and inward throughout his stay, his eyes shine like stars and his being is innocent and pure.
